Kyle Thompson posted a final round 8-under 65 to win in come from behind fashion at The Georgia Club, of the Testoril Peach State Tour Championship.
Thompson, a native of Panama City, Florida has played in 53 events on the PGA Tour in his career. Making 39 cuts and finishing in the top-25 twice. Earning more than $240,00 on the big stage.
At one point contemplating giving up the game. Thompson even went as far as applying for a sales position with a medical company, before returning to his coach and the course -- And his form.
The former South Carolina Gamecock came into Thursday's final round, needing to go low in order to gain ground on the third round lead of Philip Mollica. Who began the day at 17-under par.
Thompson would get off to the quick start he needed birdieing his first two holes. A bogey on the par-3, third would be his only blemish of the day.
Steady par golf over his next five holes is good enough in opening rounds, though not when you are chasing down a lead.
A birdie on the par-3, seventh aided Thompson in making the turn at 2-under par. The back nine is where the 34-year old caught fire and would make his move up the leader board.
With a birdie on No. 10, Thompson moved his round to 3-under par. Another birdie on the par-4, 13th would get him to 4-under. Then, a birdie barrage flurry to end his final round.
Thompson would go on to close out his final round with four birdies in a row. En route to carding an 8-under 64, to claim the 2013 Testoril Peach State Tour Championship and the $15,000 winner's check.
His final round capped off a solid week's performance for Thompson. Carding rounds of 66, 68, 68 and of course his Championship clinching 64. Besting Mark Silvers (-21) and Phillip Mollica (-20) for the title.
