Will Collins and Erik Flores both card opening round 6-under 65's en route to sharing the lead after the opening 18 holes at the NorthStone Open.
This week, the eGolf Professional Golf Tour is once again back at the P.B. Dye designed NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville, NC.
Collins, who just last week was the hometown heroes of sorts, winning the Salisbury Open. Began his round in style, by carding back-to-back birdies on his first two holes of the day.
An eagle on the par-5, 6th would see his score quickly get to 4-under par through six holes.
A bogey on the ninth would be the only low point of his opening nine. Making the turn at 3-under.
Two pars on his inward nine, Collins would go on to once again put back-to-back birdies on his score card on Nos. 12 and 13. Two more circles on the card at Nos. 15 and 16 would give him four birdies in a six hole span. Taking his score to then, 7-under.
An unfortunate bogey on the 18th would see Collins open the NorthStone open with a 6-under 65.
Sharing the lead with his own opening round of 65. Flores also began his day with a birdie flurry on the opening nine.
A birdie on the first is always a nice way to get your round underway, as Flores did.
Pouring in two more birdies on Nos. 4 and 5, would see him also get off to a quick start and to 4-under par through his first six holes.
Back-to-back birdies on Nos' 8 and 9 saw Flores make the turn at 5-under par and hungry for more.
He would not have to wait long to quench his hunger. Flores went on to card three more birdies over his next six holes. Taking his score to 8-under par and for the moment -- The outright lead.
A poor two closing holes with bogeys on Nos. 17 and 18 would see his score fall back to 65, and into a tie for the lead with Collins after their opening 18.
Collins and Flores at 65 lead by one over Drew Weaver and by two over early leader Jurrian Van der Vaart and Frank Adams III.
