Nathan Tyler and Kevin Lucas fired opening rounds of 7-under, 65's to share the lead at the inaugural eGolf Tour West event at Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.
The Southern Dunes event is the first of 20 events scheduled on the new West region of the eGolf Professional Tour. Dubbed eGolf Pro Tour West. This new series will feature events throughout the states of California, Nevada and Arizona.
Tyler, a former University of Arizona Cardinal and Freeport, Texas native. Has teed it up in three Web.com Tour events in 2013, before his eGolf West debut at Southern Dunes. Making the cut in one of those events, a T15 finish at the Air Capital Classic.
Lucas, from Folsom, California, was a standout player for the Nevada Wolf Pack from 2010 to 2012. In his 2012-11 season, Lucas was second on his team in scoring average with 73.44.
Both players had polar opposite scoring in their opening rounds at Southern Dunes.
Tyler jumped out early with five birdies on his opening nine. Including three in a row on holes three through five, before making the turn with a birdie on No. 9, to go out in 31.
Another birdie on the par-4, 10th saw his score reach 6-under and going lower. Two bogeys on the par-4, 12th and par-3, 17th were the only blemishes on Tyler's score card after his opening 18. A final birdie on No. 18 finished off his opening round, 65.
Lucas's round saw the 25-year old begin with an opening par before going birdie, eagle on holes two and three to quickly get him to 3-under par. He would give one back on the par-3, 6th, though quickly rebounded with a birdie on No. 7 to make the turn at 33.
The lone bogey on the par-3, 11th would be the only negative of Lucas's back-nine. Going on a run of three birdies in a row on holes 12, 13 and 14 -- Followed by back-to-back birdies to finish off his round strong. Equaling Tyler's round of 65 to share the lead after round one.
Tyler and Lucas lead by one over a group of golfers at 6-under including; Scott McNeil, Davis Kirkland, Brian Prouty, Eric Meierdierks and Jake Sarnoff.
Low scoring and a tight leaderboard look to have the eGolf West Pro Tour off to a great beginning at Southern Dunes.
