Presidents Cup Pairings

Here are a list of the 2011 President Cup Pairings, for the opening matches on Thursday. As you can see, everyone is getting their wish with a Tiger Woods and Steve Williams, I mean Adam Scott pairing.

Never have I seen the fans and media want a pairing to happen so badly, that had absolutely nothing to do with the two players -- But a caddy.

Nevertheless, here are the pairings for the Presidents Cup matches for Thursday.

Match 1: Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson vs. Ernie Els and Ryo Ishikawa (9:08 PM EST)

Match 2: Bill Haas and Nick Watney vs. Geoff Ogilvy and Charl Schwartzel (9:17 PM EST)

Match 3: Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar vs. Aaron Baddeley and Jason Day (9:29 PM EST)

Match 4: Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk vs. Retief Goosen and Robert Allenby (9:41 PM EST)

Match 5: Hunter Mahan and David Toms vs. Kyung-tae Kim and Y.E. Yang (9:53 PM EST)

Match 6: Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker vs. Adam Scott and K.J. Choi (10:05 PM EST)

Funny how most are making it out to be Woods vs. Williams. Last I checked, it will be Adam Scott hitting the shots against Woods, not Williams.

As I have said before, I hope this does not detract from the golf itself. After all, this is a golf competition not a filming of the Jerry Springer show.

  1. Well y'all are making it filming by putting them together. Woods should not even be there. He was not the best player this year. But Freddy did it for ratings so you get what u ask for.

  2. I also thought Woods did not belong on the team as well. But as you said, Freddy did it (most likely for ratings as you said and Woods will always be a huge draw) and now he is stuck with either the good or the bad with his play.

You're right, they got what they asked for in the pairing. As I said, I hope it does not take away from the golf itself.

    Highly doubtful though.

  3. Would it have been better for Couples to have waited to select Woods to the team? Maybe so. But everyone knew somehow that he would put him on the team, he's Tiger Woods. And whether or not it was for the better of the team or ratings, it was still bound to happen. He does have a pretty good record in the event in the past as well. Now that he is there, let's see how he plays.
