Dufner and Wi tied for the lead at Bay Hill

The last leg of the Florida Swing on the PGA Tour is home to 'The King', Arnold Palmer, and his Invitational event at Bay Hill.

Two are tied atop the leader board after round one, with matching 66's from Jason Dufner and Charlie Wi.

Wi, who has not finished inside the top-25 since his second place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, was the first to post the six-under, 66 score for everyone to chase.

The 40-year old South Korea native carded three birdies in a four hole stretch on the front nine, between holes four and seven before yielding his one and only bogey of the day on No. 8.

Wi made the turn in 34 at two-under, par.

He quickly recovered from his lone bogey with a birdie on the par-four, 10th. Adding three more birdies on holes 14, 16 and 18. Wi would be the first of the two players to post 66 and take the lead in the clubhouse.

Dufner, who was in the afternoon wave of players is looking for a heck of a birthday present this week at Bay Hill.

The Cleveland, Ohio native will turn 35 on Saturday, and oh what a gift that would be, if he were able to get the win at the home of the king.

“That would be a great birthday present,” said Dufner.

The (for now) 34-year old mimicked Wi's front nine, making the turn in 34. Carding three birdies on holes two, seven and eight. Before carding his only bogey of the day on No. 9.

Dufner started out the back-nine just as Wi did. With a birdie on the par-four, 10th. He would follow that up with another birdie on No. 12, and an eagle on the par-five, 16th.

With two top-10 finishes already this season, the Auburn Tiger is hoping that he can pull from his experience at the PGA Championship in 2011 for experience, if a similar situation should arise on Sunday.

Dufner drove the ball beautifully today, hitting 92.9% of the fairways. Good enough to be ranked No. 1 through the first round.

He also ranked fourth in strokes gained-putting, putts per greens in regulation and putts per round.

Starting the week with stats like that, Dufner could very well find himself right in the mix come Sunday afternoon.
