Pensacola, Fl. - Former University of Illinois golfer Chris DeForest carded an opening round 6-under 64 in the first stage of the Web.com Tour qualifying school at the Pensacola Country Club on Tuesday.
DeForest, who has played in 32 Web.com Tour events since 2012, takes the overnight 18 hole lead over Ken Looper, Garrett Osborn and Bryce Ledford (-4) heading into round two tomorrow morning.
In the 32 Web.com Tour events, DeForest made the cut in 10 events. With his best finish coming at the Miccosukee Championship where he finished in a tie for fifth. Earning $22,800 for his finish.
Along with his tie for fifth, he has one other top-25 finish, coming at the Midwest Classic where he finished in a tie for 11th.
Looper, who is in a tie for second at 4-under par, teed it up in two PGA Tour events in 2013. Making the cut at both the Sanderson Farms Championship (35th) and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (21st).
The Mandeville, La. native played his college golf at LSU. In his two PGA Tour events in 2013, he earned $73,530.
Ledford, who competes regularly on the eGolf Professional Tour is also tied for second with Looper after the first round.
In 2013, the Chattanooga, Tn. native played in eight events on the eGolf Tour. Though he only made the cut in one event, he certainly made the best of that opportunity. Winning The Championship at St. James Plantation and earning $18,000.
As we head into round two here at the Pensacola Country Club, it's Chris DeForest leading the way at 6-under par. Followed by Ken Looper, Garrett Osborn and Bryce Ledford at 4-under.
